I am sat here with a stinking cold desperately trying to muster up the energy to make some ginger and turmeric shots to blast this virus! I should have made them last week when my husband went down with it but hindsight is a wonderfully annoying thing!
Turmeric and ginger are powerful natural ingredients that bring a host of health benefits, especially for those looking to support joint health, digestion, and immune resilience.
Taking these spices while you have a cold can be very helpful! They contain properties that may relieve cold symptoms and support your body’s healing process. Ginger can act as a natural decongestant, helping to break down and clear mucus from your airways making it easier to breathe.
Fresh turmeric contains curcumin, a bioactive compound celebrated for its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin has been linked to improved joint health, reduced risk of chronic diseases, and enhanced cognitive function. It may aid in managing conditions like arthritis, heart disease, and even certain cancers, while also supporting digestive health, bolstering the immune system, and contributing to healthy skin.
Fresh ginger, another powerhouse, complements turmeric beautifully with its own anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger can help ease digestion, reduce nausea, soothe muscle pain, and improve circulation. It’s also known to support immune health and may aid in managing blood sugar levels, making it a great addition to your daily wellness routine.
To enjoy these benefits, try incorporating fresh turmeric and ginger into your diet. Grate them into stir-fries, juice them, or even add them to baking recipes. You can find fresh turmeric root at health food stores or opt for the powdered version from any supermarket.
Boost Your Health with Turmeric and Fresh Ginger Shots:
For those of you who do not have a juicer that extracts fibre then use a blender and a fine mesh sieve instead. A nutmilk bag is the best strainer for this which you can buy from a health food shop or online.
Ingredients:
🫚 A large chunk of fresh ginger (75 – 100 grams)
🫚 One small turmeric root (about 15 grams)
🍊 3 peeled oranges
🍋 3 peeled lemons
🍏 1 apple or a thick slice of ripe pineapple
Directions:
Chop all the ingredients and add to the blender. Then blend until it is relatively smooth. Place the nutmilk or sieve over a bowl and pour in the smoothie mix. Strain into the bowl to remover the fibre.
You can store the juice in the fridge for a few days or freeze in ice-cube trays.
Pour yourself a shot, add a dash of black pepper to boost absorption and enjoy this powerful elixir 💥
