Posture For Productivity!

So... can better posture really elevate your game?

One of the first things I assess with a new client is their posture, regardless of their reasons for seeking coaching. This is crucial because, in today's fast-paced world, many of us spend hours at our desks, often overlooking this essential aspect of our health. The way we sit, stand, and move significantly impacts not only our physical wellbeing but also our work performance, self-confidence, and how we present ourselves to the world.

Proper posture enables us to breathe more easily, reduces stress on the spine, and increases energy levels.

When we maintain good posture, we open up our airways, allowing more oxygen to reach our brain, which can improve concentration and mental clarity. Additionally, when we hold ourselves properly we can ease physical discomfort which helps prevent distractions and fatigue that can negatively impact our day.

There's no doubt about it, good posture is the foundation for a healthier lifestyle and contributes to better focus and productivity, whether it's for work or play!

Here are some quick tips to improve your posture:

🪑 Ergonomic Workspace: Ensure your desk, chair, and computer are at the correct height (see link below for checklist).

🙆‍♀️ Movement Breaks: Stand up, stretch, or take a short walk every hour.

💪🏻 Core Strengthening: Incorporate exercises that strengthen your core muscles (think planks, bridges, bicycle crunches, back raises).

🧘🏽 Mindfulness: Pay attention to your posture throughout the day and make adjustments as needed. Try to lift and lengthen your spine from the top of your head.

Posture is particularly important for women going through menopause. During this phase, hormonal changes can lead to joint pain, muscle stiffness, and a decrease in bone density. Maintaining good posture can help alleviate these symptoms and support overall wellbeing. By ensuring proper alignment and engaging in core-strengthening and resistance exercises, women can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and improve their balance and stability.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Nichola Adams CEO at Inspired Ergonomics. If you head over to their website inspiredergonomics.com you will find a very useful checklist '7 Ways To Remove Posture-Related Pain' which I urge you to download.

You can also join my Reboot30 LIVE membership group for lunchtime workouts (live and on demand) where we address posture through core strengthening exercises and activating key back muscles, helping you build a solid foundation for improved overall health.

Please don't dismiss the importance of preventing poor posture; small changes can make a huge difference in the long run. Don't wait for physical pain to address how you stand, sit, and carry yourself.

Start making adjustments today for a healthier future.
